Friends and Fam,
Well this week has been a
good one. It all started when our investigators son peed on Sister Echon's
shoes. That little boy scored high in my books. I love this place haha.
We had a mission wide
party on Monday which made me feel like a normal person for 12 hours. We played
all sorts of games, volleyball, ultimate frisbee, had a water fight, etc.
Everyone at the end of the day was sunburnt, soaking wet, and soo exhausted. We
traveled home by zones and our whole zone occupied more than half of a jeepney.
We all sang hymns the whole way home (I'm pretty sure the other passengers on
the jeepney were a little confused, nonetheless the spirit raged and i'm sure
they felt it). Pretty sweet experience. We also had MLC this week which we
focused on how we can help our missionaries be better missionaries, how to help
motivate them and what not. I always learn lots and always give some sort of
sport analogy and relate it to the mission field.
Well I would like to tell
you about one of our new investigators, M.S. She is 13 years old and has been
through more than any girl her age should have ever experienced. Growing up she
has had NO parental support whatsoever, meaning her life was just about chaos
when we met her. She has tried every sort of drug you can ever think of, very
addicted, drinks, smokes, is a victim of rape, was pregnant--she was
electrocuted a month ago aborting her child, and has never had someone tell her
that they love her until now. She realized that she was NOT HAPPY at all with
her life and her aunt, E. R., has taken her in as a child and is helping her to
change, introducing her to us about a month ago. (E. R. is a less active we
have been working with but has come back strong and is becoming very active in
the church.) The first day we met with M, the poor girl cried to us about all
of her problems. I looked into that sweet girls eyes and could see all the pain
and hurt that she has experienced along with all of the burdens. Day one we
committed her to completely rid herself of all drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, and
coffee. It has been a month now and she has not touched ONE of those substances
since. She was also given a baptismal goal date that day and is preparing
herself to be baptized April 26. We were teaching her how to pray a few weeks
ago and we had a very interesting experience. The poor girl tried saying a
prayer about four times and could not get through it without crying. She told
us that there was something inside her head keeping her from being able to
finish her prayer. Like something was mixing up everything in her brain and she
couldn't focus. (effects of all the drugs she has taken). The fifth time she
tried, all four of us were in tears (E was at this lesson). We pulled in our
chairs super close into a circle with all of our knees touching, each of us had
a hand on M's back to comfort her as she struggled her way through this prayer,
sobbing in tears. She finished the prayer and it was a beautiful moment. She
looked up in tears and then asked if she could have a blessing on Sunday to
help her get through this rough time in her life. Yesterday that was done, and
she is already improving drastically. It breaks my heart to see such a young
girl go through so much, but it just proves to me that the gospel is for
EVERYONE, no matter what the age, what they have been through, or how far off
the path they are, the Atonement and Gospel of Jesus Christ reaches EVERYONE.
Sorry that's all I've got
time for this week, more to come next week, promise! Transfers are coming up
this Wednesday, I'm very sad that SIster Echon and I will no longer be
companions. Not sure if I will transfer or not, I'm pretty sure I will stay
here in Floridablanca and that SIster Echon will transfer. But hey, you never
know!
